The Pain Within by KV-Arts The Pain Within by KV-Arts

It's about keeping emotions in and one thing I keep to myself is pain. This piece depicts the physical pain of sinus headaches, something I get a lot in public but never tell anyone.
I am sensitive to temperature change and it feels like one side of my skull is on fire while the other is iced over. It feels like the two forces are trying to force my skull apart from the inside out and it can be so bad that I can't function properly.

Why I don't tell anyone? I don't like to bug people with my problems, let alone my internal problems. I suffer in silence and deal with it in my own time.

Made of air-dry clay and acrylics. 4 inches tall, 3 inches at the widest point.

I am really sorry about your sinus headaches. Those are very painful. Doctors can't help? Maybe you need surgery? I am no doctor, I just hate to hear of suffering. Especially for an artist as talented as you...

So, I find this piece STAGGERING. EXCELLENT. You convey such emotion, and your composition and color (especially after your explanation) are very effective. I will be watching you. Keep it up.

I don't see a doctor for them since they are not a constant. They happen when the weather changes and when there is smoke (wildfires). I am affected by both the temperature and the barometer (pressure). I also freeze and overheat easily so overheating in a cold air can have a similar effect as a sunny day with a cold wind. I'm in Southern California so the weather fluxes a good deal.

But most of the time I catch them quickly and can diffuse them with a hot cup of coffee, Andrea Bocelli in my iPod, and meditation. I also keep headache medicine just in case but I try not to make it my first option.

And Thank you VERY much! :)

Bocelli - nice touch.

It sounds like you have a well-thought out and great plan for dealing with them. I am sorry that you have to struggle with it. The fact that you stay in touch with your artistic routes says a lot about your strength and endurance. Thank you for sharing your gift.

It took a while but now that I know the variety of situations that can cause them, I'm better prepared. And I have friends here on dA that I can talk to as they have similar situations. :)

Art is a must for me but I would go crazy if I did just art. I need my academia side also and plan to go into Mortuary Science as an embalmer. I'll be doing freelance art, as well. :)

Mortuary Science - wow - you are a brave soul. How kind.

Did you ever watch Six Feet Under?

I understand about the intellectual stimulation. I have a Master's, but I no longer work (depression, etc.) and I have tried to revive my undergrad interests in philosophy. Unfortunately due to my meds. my memory is very bad and I have trouble retaining knowledge.

I didn't but I did watch Pushing Daisies. I thought about a Morgue job just I am not up for autopsies.

I am a bit worried that it will affect my sleep though. I know it is a stressful career and I have about 3 different sleep disorders (sleepwalking, hypnagogic hallucinations, and REM behavior disorder [link]) And stress can trigger them. They are not as bad as they used to be but they can interrupt my hours of sleep, making my sleep in, esp. when they happen between 3a-5a. I take a sleep aid when I have to get some sleep but the key thing was learning that my hallucinations are not real. When I think they are real, then it can really wake me up make me run out of the room.

Wow. You certainly have some challenges. I am sorry you have to deal with that. Well, at least autopsies are conducted by medical doctors, so you don't have to worry about that.

What do you take for sleep? I take Klonapin, and use a Delta Sleep System CD.

Yeah, but there is something about a circular saw cutting open the ribcage, even just the sound of it. But pulling the skin off the skull is cool (I swim in the macabre pool a lot).

I use Kirkland Signature (Costco brand) sleep aid, Doxylamine Succinate. Unfortunately I can only take it when I have at least a 9 hour sleep window available as it can keep you drowsy when awake.

Well this one symbolizes sinus headaches. When I get them it feels like one side of my head is on fire while the other is ice cold. Not sure I'd call it a mental disorder but you can put it in if you wish :)

it's going to be a variety of issues people face... i generalize them as mental disorders but i guess i truly mean physical and/or phsychological disorders.

:) thanks!

Luckily if the headache is small or if I have time I can remove it naturally with meditation. If not, I've got some kickass medicine for it =D
